Mountain Waves. Not A Hotel 2026 | Yakushima Japan | architectural competition entry

The project reimagines hospitality through a symbiotic fusion of natural forces, born from the rugged contours of mountains and the fluid grace of ocean waves. This architectural proposition emerges where earth’s unyielding solidity meets water’s ephemeral flow, crafting a structure that embodies duality: a monolith as enduring as granite, yet as yielding as a tide.
The building appears to emerge organically from the ground, its distinctive wave-like form creating opportunities for private spaces in direct contact with the surrounding nature.
The building’s multifaceted roof slopes replicate the profiles of the surrounding mountains, forging a visual and tectonic harmony with the rugged topography.
